1st Advent Sunday

Advent Sunday christmas-balls

Some of you might know that some years ago, I published a knitting pattern for a very nice, but also very advanced numbered advent calendar. The idea was knitting one bauble a day through out December, obviously a highly ambitious plan.

I still like to idea of celebrating the milestones of December with a knitted bauble, so here is the new project; one bauble a week-plan. A much more achievable plan. Yeah! And if you download the single pattern every Sunday, then the pattern is for free.

What is very special about these yulekugler is that I have finished the top and bottom using the technique from a fair isle tam. This created a kind of star at the top and bottom, that is a little bit difficult to knit fair-isle with so little stitches, but I think its really worth it. It makes the baubles look much more fully decorated rather than just having a decorated band around the middle.

This is the teaser, the announcement, I will publish the patterns every Sunday this year, so you have something to look forward to. Just get those knitting needles ready, and order your yarn, you will need:

Red, white, dark blue, light blue, forest green and a tiny little bit of yellow for highlights. all in sock yarn. knitting needles size 3mm and some filling, I like to work with polystereen balls 8cm diameter, others prefer a soft filling. The godfathers of christmas balls: Arne & Carlos recommend wool filling.

Christmas decoration

just in time! On the 22nd of December just before leaving I finally got that Christmas decoration up and hanging. This time a modest amount of 7 knitted Christmas baubles hung on a string. All I could muster this year.

There are some new patterns there, all of them using the new fair isle tam technique top and bottom. I'm a bit behind with my posts and knitting patterns.... hope to be able to share these patterns soon, then you should have plenty of time to prepare for next christmas :-)

Snow covered fir tree yulekugle

I knitted this yulekugle whilst we where on a delayed autumn holiday in the Vosges Mountains in France. In fact we where so late that we experienced some of the seasons first snow, which was beautiful.
I had seen these beautiful fair isle mittens by Ysolha where the top had been finished using the technique from a fair isle tam. I thought it would be nice to try that on the top and bottom of the yulekugle because I always find it difficult to make a nice top and bottom.
Also partly because I forgot to bring my sock needles I decided to knit using a magic loop, which I have never done before. I must say it really works fantastic, much less hassle especially with this fair isle tam finishing.

The Christmas swap deal

Did this great swap with an old class mate; I got 3 sets of counterfeit royal Copenhagen Christmas decoration, which he produces under the radar together with an old friend. He got 8 knitted Christmas balls.

My Christmas decoration this year

Just picked up this random branch from the street and suspended it from the ceiling. Perfect to hang your knitted Christmas balls. I'm not a fan of the traditional Christmas tree. So sad all those trees that get cut down just to decorate our homes. Don't want to think of the carbon footprint it represents

Finally started knitting that advents calendar started. Funny note: I'm starting knitting in the same place where I first started designing it in january 2014, at our favorite chalet in the Vogezen, France.
